Visitors, please DO NOT park in the traffic circle in front of the school where kids are dropped off and picked up. Only park in DESIGNATED parking spaces for visitors. Also, do not enter or park in the bus area between GHES and GHMS.


Locks of Love
Students and teachers who have been growing your hair this year for Locks of Love – remember our ponytail roundup is
Tuesday, May 22, from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. 
This is after one of our field days.  Location is:  Ohana Salon and Spa on Stonecrest Blvd.    Anyone planning to have their hair cut at the salon must have a parent contact Mrs. Hendley, or see her in the music room.  You may also donate your ponytail to our GHES roundup – if your hair is cut at your own salon.


5th Grade Decades Project
Please join us on
Tuesday, May 29 at 6pm in the cafeteria.
5th graders will present their decades projects. 
We will be traveling from the 50s through the 90s.  
This is always a great night with lots of fun and laughter!
5th grade students are asked to report to their homeroom teacher’s class no later than 5:40.


Medication
All medication must be picked up from the health room by May 31, 2012.  After this time, they will be disposed of per district policy.  Please contact Nurse Furr at furrt@fort-mill.k12.sc.us if you have questions.


Lost and Found
We have many jackets, and other items in our lost and found. 
All unclaimed items will be donated to charity in early June.
Parents, please check to see if any articles belong to your children.
Tubs are located near the cafeteria exit and the student restrooms.


Attention Parents!
Please include your phone number on any checks that are sent to school for payment of lunch money, field trips, etc.  On checks for your child’s cafeteria account, in addition to your phone number include your child’s name and lunch account number. Thank you for your careful attention to this as you plan for future payments.
As of May 11, 2012, students can’t charge anything in the cafeteria.

Camp Invention Returns to GHES
Camp Invention is led by local, highly-qualified educators who believe in a team environment.  This summer Camp Invention iwill be using the ENVISION program:  Magnetropolis™ - Ahoy! Set sail to the magnificent island of Magnetropolis and explore the power of magnetism.  Build boats, buildings, and towers!  Children entering grades one through six will be immersed in a weeklong adventure of creative problem solving.  This is a chance to enhance your child’s education while they have fun this summer!

School Improvement Council Annual Report
This report is issued by our School Improvement Council in accordance with South Carolina law to share information on the school’s progress in meeting various goals and objectives, the work of the SIC, and other accomplishments during the school year.

Free Energy Kits
Duke Energy is providing free energy efficiency kits to every household. These kits contain several items to help you conserve energy at home and to help you save money on your energy bill. NTC is also throwing a contest with a $1000 prize for the school that signs up for the most kits (based on percentage of our school’s population). There is also a $5000 family prize – anyone who signs up for a kit is eligible for that prize! 
To get your free energy efficiency kit, you can go online to www.MyEnergyKit.org or call 1-855-38MYKIT (1-855-386-9548). Kits can also be ordered by filling out a postage-paid form found in The Energized Guyz workbooks (sent to students and teachers at school).  We can sign up for these kits during the entire school year – the deadline for the contest is June 15, 2012. Sign up for a kit and help us win!

Attention Parents of Students Who
Ride a School Bus!
Due to bus overcrowding, students will not be allowed to ride a different bus, without prior approval from the Transportation Dept.  DO NOT SEND A NOTE to the teacher regarding a bus change.  The TRANSPORTATION CHANGE REQUEST form must be completed by a parent/guardian and turned in to the school office.  Please allow two business days for processing.  The Transportation Dept. may deny requests due to lack of space on a bus.  You can find the form under the District Resources tab on the left of your screen, by picking one up in our front office, or by clicking here.

Enrollment Freeze for GHES Continues
The Board of Trustees has voted to continue the enrollment freeze at Gold Hill Elementary for the 2011-2012 school year.  Effective June 3, 2011, any new student who moves into the Gold Hill attendance area will attend Riverview Elementary. 


rE-cycling Earns Cash for GHES
Gold Hill Elementary School is now collecting unwanted electronics for our recycling program.  GHES will get an average of $3 to $5 for each item recycled.  Money raised will go towards helping to fund school programs.  You can drop off any unwanted cell phones, music players, mp3 players, game systems, e-readers, GPS systems, cameras and video cameras.  Please donate yours.  For more information on our e-waste collections email: GoGreen@MyCarolinaTown.com

Frequently Asked Questions about Gifted and Talented Identification
How does a student become eligible for placement into Gifted and Talented (GT) classes?  The Fort Mill School District adheres to the identification guidelines as outlined by the South Carolina State Department of Education. Students must qualify in two out of the three dimensions explained below in order to be eligible for placement. Certain restrictions apply regarding the use of specific test scores and report cards.Click here for more information.

     Gold Hill Elementary School is a kindergarten through fifth grade school located in one of the fastest growing school districts in South Carolina.  GHES is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. 
    The school opened in 1994 with a strong tradition in education, taking its name from an academy that was the first school in the area.  Our school enrollment is reaching our building capacity; therefore, we currently have an enrollment freeze.  A link is provided to share information regarding our school enrollment freeze for the 2008-2009 school year.
